Insight into transience, or impermanence, is central to the survival of our species. Our minds have been conditioned to resist all change. Everything in existence has a birth, a growth, a decay, and a death. How we respond to the fact of impermanence determines whether we suffer or find lasting happiness in the world. Change is nothing to fear. It is possible to live a life of contentment amid a world of constant flux. But, to overcome our fear of change and to find equanimity, in its midst, requires clearly gazing into it. It is here that words must stop and we must return to our inner silence.
