Most people talk about stepping outside their comfort zone like it is stepping into the Twilight Zone, a furtive place no one wants to explore not on their own.

The issue with this kind of thinking is that it keeps us safe, and that's not always a good thing.  Feeling comfortable is fine, feeling comfortable is needed, but feeling complacency is a big no-no.  Although being comfortable brings us a sense of calmness and familiarity,  it can also prevent us from being curious.  Curiosity is something we naturally have, and it means wondering about what was, what is, and what will be.

You might not realize it, but you miss so much of life by not raising your hand, your voice, or chasing your dreams.  It shouldn't be this way.  Here are seven positive benefits of stepping out of your comfort zone.

  1. Growth Opportunities - You can reach your peak performance level by challenging yourself.  If you only stick to your routine lifestyle and normal habits, then you shouldn't expect to grow and reach new heights.  Learning new things and improving your skills will help you throughout your life.
  2. Get to know yourself - Taking risks will teach you about your passions, strengths, weaknesses, interests, and talents.  Every time you achieve something which you think was impossible, you become more knowledgeable, skilled, and confident.  This will help you grow as a person.
  3. Expand your creativity - When you try something new, you may find a new talent or hobby which you didn't know that you had.  Challenging and new situations require you to tap into your creativity for coming up with a solution.
  4. Improve your confidence - Your self-confidence and self-esteem can be improved by tackling the unknown.  It will help you to push past your boundaries and limiting self-beliefs.  Insecurity likes to feed on your habit of not trying.  If you start doing instead of constant overthinking, then you may realize anything and everything is possible.
  5. Deal with challenges - Life is unpredictable, and challenges arise every day.  It is important that you have the confidence and the skills to face them head-on. By overcoming something you thought to be impossible will reinforce your resolve and will build your confidence.
  6. Get the most out of life - Everything feels different when your life stops being a scene from the movie Groundhog Day.  Life becomes worth living and more interesting.  Obstacles may look like opportunities, and risks could look like adventures.  Your appreciation for what's around you increases when you are happier on the inside.  So, it is empirical that you surprise yourself daily.
  7. Form new relationships - Doing new things helps you to meet all kinds of new people you might not have met if you stayed in your comfort zone.  You must have a good relationship with yourself in order to have a good relationship with others.  If you are not happy with what you do or who your are, then it will be challenging to appreciate the good qualities of the people around you.  Overcoming your fears, stepping out of your comfort zone, and discovering who you are will allow you to have better relationships with others.  As your confidence and life perspectives increase, dramatic and negative episodes tend to decrease.

If you feel stuck in life, have fear of stepping out of your comfort zone, a QHHT session can help us identify the underpinnings of the fear associated with moving forward. Once the root cause of the fear is identified, many clients have found they are able to clear away the debris causing obstacles so they can move forward in their lives.
